So... why did I picked that subject?

simple, it started in last year, in the University of Tel - Aviv, in a program of gifted student fifth grade and in the sixth grade. We needed to choose too subjects. One of the subjects I picked was Astronomy and Astrophysics and I loved in that subject. And that is my story about how I am connected to that subject.

So today I will talk about:


But not just any asteroid, I am going to talk about an asteroid that passed near Earth. Yes, yes, our earth. The size of the asteroid was the size of a BUS!

NASA's Near Earth Object has discovered over 15,000 asteroids since 1998!

However, every now and again, one manages to escape their powerful telescopes and keen eyes. This was certainly the case with asteroid 2017 BS32, which was discovered on January 30 just three days before its close encounter with Earth.

But wait, I forgot, WHAT IS AN ASTEROID?

Well, asteroid is a space object, a combination of ice and space rock.

Back to where we were, well, NASA said that even if this asteroid would hit the ground, he wouldn't cause damage.

The largest surprise asteroid this year was 2017 AG13, which came within about half the distance between the moon and Earth.

Paul Cox, the chief astronomical officer at Slooh Observatories, says, “It raises a few eyebrows when we see a number of close approaching NEAs (Near Earth Asteroids) over such a short period of time.

There are probably aliens 40 light yaers from us! It's 40 years of traveling in space...

But, wait, a human being can't be out in space over six monthes. Well, becuase of the advance of technology maybe we chould fly to there 40 yaers from now! Bu in the meanwhile we can't...

So today I am gonna talk about 56-year-old NASA astronaut.

Yes, Peggy Whitson is the oldest female NASA astronaut.

On November 19, after two days aboard a Soyuz MS-03 spacecraft, NASA’s Peggy Whitson astronaut (America’s most experienced female astronaut) became the oldest woman in space, breaking the former record set by Barbara Morgan who reached the ISS at age 55 (older by a year).

Whitson, who has already spent a combined 377 days in space — the most by any woman — during her two previous missions (2002 and 2007-2008), is no stranger to records.

She was the first female non-military pilot to serve as chief of NASA’s astronaut office at the Johnson Space Center and the first woman to command the ISS in 2007-2008.

Additionally, Whitson’s latest six-month stay at the ISS will push her beyond 534 days in space, breaking the US record set in September by 58-year-old Jeffrey Williams (Peggy is the oldest FEMALE NASA astronaut, but not the oldest of all). Also, her six spacewalks, totaling 39 hours, 46 minutes, are second only to fellow US astronaut Sunita Williams, who has conducted seven spacewalks, totaling 50 hours, 40 minutes.

Hi guys and welcome back to my blog. So today I am going to write about NASA's $8.7 Billion James Webb Space Telescope.

The Hubble Space Telescope ,that left Earth in 1990 has and continues to reveal secrets of planets, stars, and galaxies that lie in the cold space.

In 2018, it will finally be retired and replaced by the larger, and more powerful, James Webb Space Telescope (JWST).

The announcement, made by NASA on November 2.

Made of 18 smaller gold-plated mirrors (you can count it yourself), it boasts a surface area that is seven times that of the Hubble, making it the largest telescope mirror to fly into space.

when I was in the University of Tel - Aviv In the space lesson, I have seen some pictures from the Hubble Telescope and I was very impressed by the quality of the picture

so I hope that in the future I will get to see some pictures from the JWST.

Today I am going to talk (more like write) about our Solar System.

Do you know how much planets do we have in our Solar System?

Well, until 2013 (unknown date) ther were 8 planets.

In 2013 scientists from the Caltech University discovered a new planet.

The Caltech researcher and his colleague Konstantin Batygin think that Planet 9,

which is lurking at the edge of our solar system, is about three times larger than Earth.

It revolves around the sun in a highly elliptical orbit.

Computer simulations suggest that even at its closest the planet is, it's 200 - 300 times farther that Earth from the sun.

At its farthest, the gaseous it's a distance is between 600 - 1,200 times that of Earth. It is no wonder that it takes the celestial body over 20,000 Earth years to complete a single orbit!

So today I am gonna talk our Earth. So what is Earth like?


Our home planet Earth is a rocky, terrestrial (fitts to be populated) planet. It has a solid and active surface with mountains, valleys, canyons and so much more... Our Earth is special because it has over 70% precent water!


Our atmosphere is mostly made of nitrogen and has plenty of oxygen that we can breathe.

The atmosphere also protects us from meteoroids (most of them break up in our atmosphere before they can strike the surface as meteorites).

Because we live here, you might think we know all there is to know about Earth. Well... Not at all, actually! We have a lot to learn about our home planet.

So I hope you learned something new and maybe one of you will become an archeologist but that's it for now!

Hi guys, and welcome back to my blog. I thought that it will be nice if I will continue talking about Earth but differently - I will talk about galaxy.

We live in Earth, earth is in our solar system, but where is our solar system? I'll start buy asking you: What is a GALAXY?

Galaxy is a collection of dust, gas and billions of stars and thier solar systems. A galaxy is held by gravity. For example, our solar system - the Milky Way - has a massive black hole in the middle of it and thats what hold it together.

When you look up at the night sky, you’re seeing other stars in the Milky Way. If it’s really dark, far away from cities and houses, you can even see the dusty bands of the Milky Way stretch across the sky.

So, today I am going to talk about our Moon. More corect - about our Moon's surface.

So, if you looked to the Moon through telescope you probably seen that the Moon's surface is scarred with craters. So how did that happened? Well, the answer is pretty simple: Ten of thousands of years ago a lot of asteroids hit him.

But, wait, isn't Earth pulling more asteroids becouse of his gravititations? Well I am happy that I asked it! Earth should pull more asteroids than the Moon, but Earth is stronger! Earth has atmosphere that destroy most asteroid befor they hit the surface!

The Moon is pwerless and can't stop the asteroids that comes towards him. The Earth has only ("only") about 180 craters!
